Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent by Veronica Roth was copyrighted in 2011 and is young adult literature. The book is about a teen in a dystopian future and she is taking a test to figure out what faction she is supposed to choose. She ends up being divergent which means, that her results said that she could have more than one faction that she is supposed to belong to. The theme of the book is that trying to figure out who you are can be difficult because of many outside forces.

The story is narrated in the point of view of Tris, the main character. The point of view of the author that she is trying to relate this book to teenagers in reality. The intended audience of the book is for young adults. The general field of the book would be dystopian fiction it fits in because the world they live in has strict rules and if you do not follow them you could be homeless or factionless. The author kept you interested because she kept having mini conflicts inside of the real conflict so you could anticipate the climax. The style the author uses is by having the book using teenager terms so it interests the audience it is intended for.

The book affected me because it made me realize that trying to figure out where you fit in is hard because people will judge every action that you make. It did change my ideas because I thought that we just sort of fit into a place with the way act. My view of the world now is that we judge people for whatever they do and that is not fair. It brought memories of the Hunger Games trilogy because Peeta and Katniss were being judged by President Snow because of what they did in the arena.

All in all, the book was fantastic. It had action and adventure. I recommend this book because you will enjoy the action, adventure, and brewing romance that is to come in the next two books.
