The Mortal Instruments City of Fallen Angels

The title of the book I read is The Mortal Instruments City of Fallen Angels, written by Cassandra Clare. Published in 2011. Since 2011 "The Mortal Instruments" has been named the #1 New York Times bestselling series with over 5 million copies in print. Also a major motion picture based on the first book in the series has been released on DVD. The general plot of this book is, when Clary Fray returns home to New York City she can finally start her training to become a shadow-hunter. Though, soon enough her training comes to an end when the world of shadow-hunters get caught up in what could become a second bloody war. With that issue at hands, she begins to wonder how much more she can take when, Jace begins to pull away from her for no apparent reason. She has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her loosing everything she loves. An overall theme of the book would be, how supernatural forces help you reinterpret mortal emotions.

The author writes this book in a way that allows you to understand things through the characters point of view, which is known as first person. At the same time though, the author uses pronouns such as, "he,she" that gives this book a third person prospective as well. The two different ways the author wrote the book helps draw the reader into the plot. It makes you feel as if you're really there or telling the story because there is no explicit narrator other than the reader. The genre of this book (or series) would fall under fantasy, since all of its characters and events are fictional. This book highlights the classic story line "good vs. evil." As the series unfolds characters discover their true nature. Cassandra Clare writes for an audience of teens and older due to some mature themes relating to "good vs. evil"

This book had many different effects on me. One of them would be my newly developed perspective on relationship dynamics. Both people must be willing to compromise and make sacrifices to keep the neutral understanding between each other. The knowledge I gained on this topic from the book, will help me develop my own relationships between possible people i could meet in the future. While thinking about this common genre of romance and relationships it brought up many memories of other romance novels I've read in the past.

This book is well written, draws in a large diverse audience of readers, has an appealing general theme and stands out against other fantasy fiction novels. Its so easy to get lost and caught up in this book you almost feel as if you're apart of their world.
