Little Woman and Me~ by Lauren Baratz-Logsted

This six weeks I decided to read Little Woman and Me by Lauren Baratz-Logsted. The copyright date for this book is July 23, 2013. This book is a realistic fiction book, because it is based off what happened in the book Little Woman, but it is not true. Emily is tired of being the middle sister, and always being stuck between her sisters. So when she gets an assignment in English class to change something about her favorite novel, she can't decide whether to change it so that Beth doesn't die, or to change it so that Laurie ends up with Jo, instead of with Amy. As she mulls over this, she is suddenly sucked into the story as the fifth sister. Everyone seems to except her as though she has been their her whole life, and she gets used to life in the world of the Little Woman. She tries to achieve her goal of first saving Beth, and then getting Jo with Laurie, but soon begins to worry that she is trapped in this world forever. Finally she realizes that everyone has their place, and there is nothing you can do to change that. So she is sucked back into the world, where everything is just the same as it was before. She decides to write her essay on changing Jo to be with Laurie, but when she turns it in to her teacher, he tells her that Jo and Laurie did end up together. She is very confused, but then she reads the end of the book, and discovers that this is right, and she had somehow changed the end of the book. The overall theme of this book is to live in the moment.
This story is told in first person from the point of view of Emily. Although you can only see what is going on inside of Emily's head, I think that this is good for this story. Because all of the other characters have already been written about and are just basically reciting their script from the original book, they would not have any original thoughts that would contribute to the plot line like Emily's did. I think that this is a very good book, and I recommend it to everyone.
